XP and tune up utilities 2004....big problem

S

I tried running the tune up utilites on my xp pro machine and it
seemed to work fine. Cleaned the registry, and fixed quite a few
problems in my system. After a defrag it booted up and ran a lot
smoother.
THEN I found out a big problem.
I could no longer connect to the network.
my icon for network connections showed connected but I had the old
169.254 addy saying it could not get an ip.

I have tried all I know, even removed and reinstalled tcp/ip and the
network card. But it still won't connect.
I did have a backup from 2 weeks ago (thank god for ghost) but it was
the weirdest thing I have ever seen.

NO more of that program until I can figure this out.

What do a lot of people use to clean the junk from the registry and to
keep their systems running well?

thanks big time for any info that might help

Sparks,
I believe you can go right-click on My Computer, then 'Properties.' click
the 'Hardware' tab then 'Device Manager'. expand the heading 'Network
Adapters'. right-click on the current connection and choose 'Properties',
click into the 'Driver' tab, you shouild then be able to roll back your
driver or update it.
