XP and ram problem

probably not the right forum to ask but can't find any other.
My motherboard runs one stick of DDR 400 184pin ram ok but goes crazy on two
sticks. Like it wants to" reinstall windows" while trying to boot up.
The M/Bd book does say DDR200 and DDR 266 so I suppose that's why, but why
does one strick of DDR 400 run ok and in either slot as well.?
If the wrong place to ask...very sorry.

Most boards of that era usually must have both ram sticks of the same
properties. This is outlined by the usual location of the chips on the
stick,one
sided or chips on 2 sides,a combination of both doesnt work...As for 200,266,
or 333 (400),find out what chipset you have (D845,D815,D850,etc),go to run,
type:Msinfo32 In Msinfo32,open hardware,open 1st link,you'll see something
like: Intel 82845G the 845 would be the chipset, once you have a few numbers,
go to intel or amd, search for that chip, gets the specs & ability with ram
memory..
