XP and outlook express

Jonathan Chiene

When I log onto XP at the log on screen showing all the
accounts, under my user account it tell me that I have 1
unread email message, however, when I log on and go into
Outlook express there are no email messages there to read.
How can I remove the message under my account name at the
log in screen telling me that I have one unread email
message, when I clearly do not. Thank you.

Hi

You can download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and when
installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to
Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail can be disabled via the Registry - navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Youremailaddress],
double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change the
value to 0(Zero).

***If you do opt for the Registry please 'tweak', please backup the Registry
first. A good program to do this - as well as being able to restore it - is
ERunt:

Hi Will,

Thanks for your adivce with regards to my question that I
posted in the MS Community newsgroups. I will try the
powertoy solution first as I dont really want to play
around with the registry, but if this doesn't work I shall
use your other suggestion for backing up the registry and
restoring it just in case it all goes pear shapped, if I
have to play around with the registry. But I'm sure the
powertoy should do the trick. I'll let you know how I get
on.

Just out of curiosty, I was wondering if I could pick your
brains with another quiry I have regarding XP. Sometimes
when I log on to my user account in XP as dialog box pops
up with the title System Busy and 3 buttons, one say
switch to, one says retry and the other which is blanked
out and unable to click on says cancel. IF I click retry
the pop up box disapears, but if I click on swtich to the
start menu pops up and I have to click somewhere else on
the desktop for the start menu to close.

I'd me most grateful if you could shed some light onto
what this is all about, why I get it and if I could do
anything to stop it from happening at all. Thanks again.

Jonathan

<LOL-LOL> Too funny! And sure send it over. I love tartar sauce but not
with Oscars dipped into it. <w>
