XP and Microsoft Word

Does Microsoft Word come with Windows XP?
Someone told me you only get Microsoft Works Word Processor when you
purchase a computer with XP.

No.

MS Word is usually obtained by installing either MS Office or MS Works.
Many new computers come with Works pre-installed by the manufacturer using a
volume, OEM license but it's not part of WinXP.

No it doesn't, you have to purchase separately (does come with WordPad
though)
Microsoft Works is another series of programs, later versions do include
Word.
(Works Suite series.)

Hello
If Word come with your computer it will have it's own disk and key code it
will not come already installed but some software packages that come with
new computers include Word but it will be on a disk.
MS Office have different variations of software and can include Word

MS Word will require a key code

Windows does not come with word.
Windows does not come with works.

Never have......... probably never will.
Some oems may include these programs as a "bonus", but they do not come with
windows xp.

You do not necessarily get either. It depends on what , if anything,
the maker decides to 'bundle' with the machine. More usually these days
it is Works - a nasty approach is to bundle a trial (60 day) version of
Office and that leaves you hooked after 60 days and forced into a full
price purchase.

Look for a bundle, or a separate purchase, of 'Microsoft Works *Suite*'
- that nowadays I understand has Word as the Word Processor - but not
the other Office components like Excel

Or just go to www.openoffice.org and download Open Office, a free,
open-source office suite.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), nor Microsoft Works have _ever_ been "part" of *any*
Windows operating system. They are, and always have been, separate
applications, that must be purchased and installed separately.
