XP and 2000 PCs not able to share folders or printers

I have a Windows 2000 PC with an Epson printer attached.
I had another PC with ME, that was able to share the
printer. I recently replaced the ME PC with an XP PC,
setup all the shares I could think of, but the XP PC
sometimes sees shares on the 2000 PC, sometimes sees the
printer, but only rarely. Its really weird. I have admin
rights all round, and all of the networking options have
been set accordingly (I've done this before and this
should be working, but its not). Anyone have any
suggestions? Should I load NWLink IPX/SPX? Should I load
the 2000 drivers for the Epson Color Stylus 400 on the XP
PC? I'm stumped. Any help is graciously appreciated in
advance.

You'll want to create an account (in Users and Passwords) on the Win2k
machine(s) with the username and password that you use to logon to the WinXP
machine(s) with (and vice-versa). Then you'll need to share out the
resource(s) with permissions for those users. Also make sure they're all
part of the same workgroup. Then you'll no longer be prompted for the IPC$
password (Inter-process communication)

In a peer level workgroup, when you try to access resources on a Windows
2000/XP machine, Windows 2000/XP needs to authenticate the user. If the user
account doesn't exist in it's local account database, then access will be
denied.

Also you may need to enable netbios over tcp/ip

Thank you for your response. What you sugggest sounds
perfectly logical, and I'll be it'll clear up the mess. I
know my brother and his family will be eternally
grateful. Cheers... Erik
