Can anyone pls advise as to this "pickle"?
...Friend one is using xp home,it is registered and
activated.A few days ago it wouldn't boot----tried
everything( inc cd recovery and backup cd supplied with
the computer) and still no luck.. so then borrowed
Friend2's xp home installation cd and whose xp is also
registered and activated, and reinstalled--success-
fully. Now we are getting the 30 days to activate notice..
pls note that during the reinstall we never were asked for
the product key----is there a way out of this?

You really screwed things up by using the CD from 2 to start 1. To get out
of the pickle you're in both machines will require a complete
reinstallation - and do not swap CDs between the two.

Hi Shelly, see the following link.
http://microscum.com/mmpafaq/

Protect your privacy from a greedy criminal monopolistic company such as
M$ and give the only the info required which is to quote M$:
"The only information required to activate is an installation ID (and,
for Office XP and Office XP family products such as Visio 2002, the name
of the country in which the product is being installed)"

Above text quoted from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/activation/mpafaq.asp#details

They have no right to ask you any more info for activation. If they
do, tell them you feel it is an invasion of privacy.
