Want to know if anyone has ever had this problem. I am running XP (upgraded
from ME) and it has been running fine for sometime. Lately, it is acting
very strange. For example, when starting up one user profile, it hangs on a
blank desktop (wallpaper only) for about 2 minutes before all desktop icons
come up. It is slow in reacting to commands (double click an icon and it may
be a minute before item starts) and had trouble running defrag. Initially it
would open (after a few minutes) then once open would not respond. I cleaned
up the drive (3GB available, 23%) and was eventually able to run the defrag,
but again, it was slow to respond to my clicks. I am afraid it is slowly
dying, but not sure why. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like you may have some spyware on your system.

Also, I do not recomend installing an OS on top of an existing OS. A fresh
install is always preferable if you can.

I recommend downloading spyware removal software and removing any spyware.
If this does not work. format and install a fresh Windows XP, then be sure to
apply all critical updates, spyware removal software, virus software, and
some type of firewall solution.
