I have just bought a new Toshiba notebook computer XP and I need to run some
very expensive embroidery software that will only run on 98. Can I have both
XP and 98 on this machine without a problem? And how do I do this??

Unfortunately, you have to reformat your drive unless someone posts a
different suggestion. Read before doing this! Reformat your drive, then
partition the drive using an XP CD. Delete the current partitions, then
create around a 30-40GB partition for Win98. Format as FAT32, then quit
Setup. Start off the 98 CD and install to the FAT32 partition. After that,
install WinXP by creating a new partition in Setup using any file system
(NTFS recommended). REMEMBER TO DO A FULL FORMAT! And make sure that you have
working backups of all your data files.
Then after all that, you should be able to boot into Win98 and use the
software.

Anyway, my method is in case the Compatibility Wizard doesn't work. Usually
Win95 and Win98 software doesn't work on XP.

Thanks for the help William

Is your Toshiba a Satallite? If it is I don't think that you will be
able to do
what you wish. Windows 98 needs to be installed on the first active
partition, C:. Then when you insert the recovery DVD from Toshiba,
which is a Ghost image, it will just format your drive and make it the
same as it came from the factory. It can be done but it would be
somewhat cheaper to buy a used PC for your embroidery software.
For example buy another full version of XP and then hunt down the
drivers for your notebook for both W98 and WXP.
