XMPCR - No sound thru Microphone

I purchased a XMPCR satellite receiver and installed per
instructions. It works great as long as I am running thru
external powered speakers.

If I try to run the audio out from the receiver into the
microphone port as directed for laptops, I don't get any
sound thru the laptop speakers.

Anyone experienced this before?

Anyon have any ideas on why nothing is playing thru the
microphone?
