xlk file extension

I work with one particular file that, when I save, always creates a back-up
copy with an xlk extension. No other file I work with does this. Why does
it happen, and how can I turn this off? I'm saving to a shared folder, and
don't want the extra copy out there.

That did it, thanks JL.

.xlk is the extension for a backup file.

With the problem workbook active, open the File, Save As dialog. Then open
General Options from the Tools menu. Uncheck "Always create backup". I
think this has to be done individually for each workbook in which it has
been set.

The above suggestion is from Jim Rech in this discussion:

In xl2003 menus:
File|SaveAs|Tools|General Options

Uncheck the "always create backup" checkbox.

Please don't come back to ask us how you get back to your original file when
you've accidentally saved a change over it, if you've disabled the option to
keep a backup.
