XFX Graphics card troubles

Im having some trouble with a new graphics card i purchased. I bought a XFX
8600gt Geforce nvidia card. I am replacing a Nvidia 6800 geforce.

My system specs are:
Dell XPS Gen4 3.2 ghz
2gb ram
17"monitor
PCI-E x16 slot for the card (black colored)

My problem is when i uninstall my current card which is the nvidia 6800 and
put in my new xfx card, and start up the computer nothing comes on the
screen. The monitor is just black, but the computer is on. I was wondering if
the box says it is for screen sizes 19-30" would that be the reason why i
cannot see anything I cannot understand the type of problem i am having,
whether it is a compatibility problem or anything. Any information or answers
would be greatly appreciated

I don't know the exact answer or solution but
it sounds like your system cannot handle that
card.

Have you checked with nVidia Support?
http://www.nvidia.com/page/support.html

The following article is for a different card but
I suspect yours may be experiencing a similar
issue:

My system does not boot when a GeForce
7950 GX2 graphics card is installed

Good luck...

Does the monitor light come on, indicating that it is getting a signal from
the card?

If so, use the F8 key and try starting up in Safe Mode or VGA mode.

If no monitor light comes on, then perhaps the card is defective.

The thing is when i start up my computer i can hear it logging in and i can
hear the hardware balloon popup in windows, the problems is i cannot see
anything because my monitor wont show anything. The monitor light shows up
and blinks as if it is in sleep mode, but it wont tell me that it is not
connected to the comp so there maybe a prob with the monitor complying with
my gfx card, thanks for the replies, any more help would be greatly
appreciated thanks again

Try connecting the monitor to the card with an old D-Sub cable (as well as
the DVI one you probably use) and see whether anything appears.
