Have a new IBM pc XP. Trying to transfer email files from old pc with Win98 Outlook Express, to new pc using Outlook Express. I was told that if I had to use the import/export feature by saving files on floppy, and trying to import them, the import feature SEE's the files on the floppy, but will not import them. Is this true? Another person told me that sometimes the folders transfer, but the email content does not. I was also told to just put the old drive in the new pc as a secondary and I could use it that way. Confused ?

Since you guys are the guru's what do I need to do. I CANT lose those email. By the way, the old pc is on its last leg. It may not start up again. PLEASE HELP !

Warm Regards
Elle

Data\Identities\{longrowofrandomnumbersandcharacters}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

to

c:\Documents and Settings\Name_Of_Your_Profile\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{anotherlongrowofrandomnumbersandsettings}\Microsoft\Outlook

On your 98 machine, right click on the inbox and click properties. That
will show you the path to all your saved mail, folders and all. Copy that
file to the new machine and in OE click File, Import, Messages and point to
that copied folder. You may have to change your Windows Explorer view on
the 98 machine to include viewing system and hidden files. If you don't
have a means of copying anything that large then install the old 98 disk as
a slave on the XP machine and do a search of it for *.dbx.

I ran into the same situation exporting from the Mac OS
Entourage to XP Outlook. Microsoft's support pages say
there's not way to export the emails, just the contact
information. Well, there is a way which is so easy it's
sometimes forgotten. Create an email and add all your
emails as attachments (being mindful of any size
limitations your email server has). Then, email that to
yourself... and check your email on the new email client.
Open the email and file the attachments as necessary.
