X850 Pro vs 9500 Pro?

I have a chance to get a brand new X850 Pro AGP for $175.00, and I currently
have a 9500 Pro. Would there be a significant improvement? I have an Asus
P4PE MB w/ Intel 2.53 CPU. Thanks for any info on whether I should do it or
not.

While it would probably be pretty difficult to find any head-to-head
comparisons as these cards represent different generations of video
technology, I feel safe to say that the X850 Pro would completely obliterate
the 9500 Pro in any tests you would care to run. You might be able to check
past reviews of the 9500 and, if they ran the same benchmarks, compare to
more recent reviews of the X850, but that would probably take a lot of
digging and back-and-forth searching. You can also go to www.ati.com and
search each product to further compare them. Any way you look at it, the
X850 is leaps and bounds ahead of the 9500.

Agreed, the 9500 is a dinosaur.

The difference would be night and day.

Yes. It's a very major jump. Depending on the games you run and the
resolutions/video options enabled you may be CPU limited on some.

$175?! Unless it's a used card from a family member or good friend, treat it
with caution.

Turning around and scalloping the card on eBay for $300+ might not be a bad
idea, either...

Yeah, I'd be very leery of a $175 X850 Pro too.

X850 Pro will blow away the 9500. While there aren't any good benchmark
comparisons between the two, check out these benchmarks at Tom's Hardware:

Just look at the Radeon 9600, which is even faster than your 9500, and
you'll understand.

Thanks for all the advise. I kinda figured that and I know my CPU is
borderline maybe for some games. I mostly due race sims. The $175 price is
the result of Best Buy selling it for $249 & I have a $75 gift card. I just
wanted to take advantage of that and upgrade my card. Thanks again to all.

Nah, the 9500 PRO is FASTER than a 9600, because it has 8 pipes, it comes
close to a 9700, but doesnt have the 256 bit memory bus. So, look between
the 9600Pro and 9800Pro.
