X800XT PE == X850XT?

According to the following website:
http://techreport.com/etc/comparo/graphics/ . The X800XT PE and the X850XT
have the exact same hardware specs? So is the difference nothing but
marketing?

The X850 XT PE have 590 MHZ GPU vs. 560 for the X800 XT PE. The memory
for the X850 XT PE is 540 MHz vs. 512 MHz for the X800 XT PE. Not much
of a difference, but some.
Furthermore the X850 Pro seems to be hamstrung as it's
performance seems about even with the X800XT.

Well, the X850 Pro has 12 pipelines while the X800 XT have 16. The
X850 Pro have somewhat higher clock, but not enough to overcome the
reduced numbers of pipelines. The memory is also a bit faster for the
X850 Pro, but in total the X800 XT can be a bit faster, a bit
depending on the test that is used -- this relating to raw processing
power vs. a bit more memory bandwidth.

Although these two cards have the same clockings, pipes and bandwidth, I
believe one is on the R480 core (X850XT) and the other on the R430
core(X800XT PE). Diiferent die size and fab, but perfromance the same for
the same clockings. Overclocking potential is different, though.

They don't have the same clockings or bandwidth.

From most manufacturers they are extremely close...both have 16 pipes,
both have 520 core, the X800XT PE has 560 memory, the X850XT has 540 in
some cases,

The bandwidth is essentially the same.

The performanc difference between the X800 XT PE and X850 XT PE are
negligible. You're looking at 20MHz GPU clock and 60MHz Memory clock
difference. That's small. You're talking less than 5% difference in clock
speeds which probably relates to only a frame per second or less difference
in any benchmark you throw at it.

Personally, I've been more than happy with my X800 XT PE since I got it a
year and a half ago at its release, for $400. and until I upgrade to a PCI-E
system, this X800 XT PE AGP should last for another year.

I'm not the one disagreeing. KCB is.

The X800XT PE and the X850XT have the same spec core clock, 520 MHz, but
the memory on the 850 is a bit slower, 540 to 560 (550?). The 850 is
built on the 480 core, and the 800 on the 423 (the 430 is a 110nm core
and these are 130nm), but these are really the same core design and only
different through manufacturing experience and enhancements.

If I remember right, there weren't all that many of the original X800
boards made, or at least sold retail, so the X850s were sort of a second
run at it. Now the 800s are out there in greater number and availability
in the X800XL and AIW X800, it seems. Also, the X850XT does have a
different heatsink/fan than the X800XT PE, having the same dual-slot
form as the X850XT PE.

The X850 Pro has the same clocks as the X850XT, but it's a 12-pipe part
and not 16. I think it's generally slower than the X800XT, at least at
higher resolutions.

No, I'm disagreeing with you saying "these two cards have the same
clockings, pipes and bandwidth". The 850 has higher clocking and more
bandwidth. I never even discussed how minimal it was or if it even
mattered. Your statement was not true and that's all I said.

Did you notice that the original poster was interested in whether the
X800XT PE and X850XT were the same? He did no mention X850XT PE, you
did. You are slightly off-topic here but luckily noone noticed and
you'll end up with a good argument if you (not meaning just you but also
the others commenting on this) go on with it.

See subject :)
