X800XT Hardware MPEG encoding

How do I use this/know I am using it?

I'm just encoding a .avi file to mpeg (to burn to dvd) and it doesn't seem
any faster than before I got this card.

Do I need compatible encoding software? (I'm using TMPEGEnc)

And is there meant to be much of a speed advantage hardware vs pure software
encoding, if so by how much?

Thanks in advance for any info

I could be talking crap, but I thought the hardware part of an ATI
card would accelerate the playback or recording of a video. If you are
converting an existing video from one format to another, then the CPU
is doing the work, so the video card is irrelevant.

I know what you mean, I thought encoding was an odd thing to have on a vid
card when I first heard about it (decoding , fair enough). But if its there
I would certainly like to get using it :¬)

Try exporting your avi file to mpeg within ATI's Library, I found it to be
faster than stand alone apps. HTH

Sorry that makes no sense to me, what is the ATI Library?

Is this part of the ATI multimedia centre?

I only have the catalyst drivers installed
