Encoder to convert .AVI to .MPEG

Hello!

I edited, using VirtualDub, a .MPEG video which was not playing correctly
(wrong "color system").

But VirtualDub only save in .AVI format, as far as I can find. And the
resulting AVI file is 1.6GB!

So: what freeware do you suggest to encode .AVI videos to .MPEG?

Unless you plan on making a DVD/SVCD/VCD AVI is a superior compression
format. Download and install the XVID codec
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ then open up VirtualDub -->Video-->Full
Processing Mode Video-->Compression-->XVID Mpeg-4 Codec-->Configure.

May be you prefer to make divx to dvd in one click? If you want that, then
use this freeware Divx2dvd:

It is simply the best!

I need for VCD, my DVD player doesn't play DivX nor XviD.

did you choose a codec?

To convert it back? I would advise you to re-encode the original MPEG file
using TMPGenc.
