X800 and video capture one more time

Ok guys and girls please bear with me on this. I'm buying a new
computer with a radeon x800 pro. I'm also interested in doing video
capture and editing from VCR tames. I want to put these on DVD's. I
have the option of a Radeon x800 pro or an xt. After someone's follow
up to my earlier post, I went to ATI's site and found that the PRO does
not in fact have video in capability but the XT does. My question is
that does it make sense to upgrade to the XT or buy an add on card. If
I do decide to upgrade to the XT, what else do I need in terms of
hardware to do video capture?

Can I just hook up the VCR video to the XT card and the audio to the SB
Audigy2 and use the software that comes with the ATI card, (the
multimedia center). The upgrade is $92.

Sorry for the sticky thread on this subject. I'm really unfamiliar with
this video capture stuff and I want to get it right.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'm going to have to call the folks that
are building my computer and see if in fact it has it. It seems that
some card manufacturers are putting VIVO in the PRO cards and some are
not.

Usually if it has VIVO then it cost a little more and they advertise it. You
really don't need a high end graphics card for video editing.
The graphics card does not really do the editing process, the CPU does it.
Unless you are going to us the X800 for games, then all you need is a simple
capture card (for analog video).

Thanks Lou, yeah, I'm a game freak that's why I'm looking at the X800.
I figured if I can get that and VIVO in one card that would be the way
to go. If not, I'll look at getting a card similar to the one you
pointed out.

thanks

I think you are confusing what the x800 is capable of, as opposed to what is
implemented by the manufacturer.
ATI just make the chipset and manufacturers implement the features (or not)
