X1800XT vs. X1950XT

I am replacing a dead X1800XT with a new X1950XT

Both cards power requirements read the same although the X1800XT has
256meg memory vs. the X1950XT's 512.

My system ran fine with the X1800XT and a 450watt power supply (with 2
burners and 6 HDDs). Does the X1950XT need much more power? WHat
happens if the power supply is not large enough for the load? Any
possible damage to any components?

BTW, like the Newegg user reviews say, this Gecube X1950XT does not follow
the reference design. It uses a newer PCB design and slower RAM (still as
fast as the X1900XT, though). The reference X1950XT draws slightly *less*
power than the X1900XT due to data bus inversion on the GDDR4 RAM. However,
this Gecube card uses GDDR3. Expect power draw to be almost identical to the
X1900XT.

The increase in power draw will be less than 5W at full load. Not an issue
for your PSU.

Thanks for the feedback!

The card choice is a compromise in that I was happy with the X1800XT
and needed to stay at or below $200 and not have to upgrade other
components if possible.
