WXP SP3 Version stays on desktop...

Had this problem with a number of machines - real and virtual - the
versioning is from SP3 beta drops that someone didn't clean up well on
uninstall.

Found simplest way to remove was to do a bare metal reload.

Are there perhaps any other solutions out there?

Uninstalling SP3 Beta prior to installing SP3 RTM addresses that behavior.

So I've been told and for some machines it did; for others it didn't, it
just has the SP2 info.

If uninstalling the beta software doesn't return the machine to its pre-data
state, a "wipe & reload" is indeed necessary. Such are the risks of
installing any beta software.

Yeppers!

However, NEVER had that problem before with any other (than WXP SP3 that is)
beta.
