WU downloads questions

Dick D.

If someone could clear up a few questions it would be greatly appreciated.

If I download more than one self-extracting file from the WU Catalog page to
a CD is there a specific place they should be installed from, on the PC that
would be updated?
Can I install/execute the exe update files directly from the CD?

How would you determine in which order they should be installed.

I understand Windows Catalog Update but finding 'un-numbered' updates can be
tricky. While looking for a large recommended Nvidia update recently, I
found Nvidia listed twice in the manufactures list. Before finding the
specific update that WU recommended I found an update for a Dell 8200. I
have Dell Dimension 8200 and now I don't know if I should load that update
too or just the recommended one. God this is getting crazy!

Any suggestions on how someone can be sure they have located the correct
un-numbered update and determine if another, that was 'found' and seems to
be
PC product specific, should be used?

TIA... DD

Hi Dick,

You can install them directly from the CD, and you should progress from
oldest to newest - generally from the smallest number to the largest.

The unnumbered updates are not critical, they are optional. Many are drivers
that are specific to some hardware, you need to read the full description of
each to determine if it is for you. I would put each of these in an
appropriately labeled folder with a brief .txt file describing what it's for
before burning to CD.
