Wrong Word Version Opening

Hello...

If I double-click on a .DOC file (or an .RTF file, etc.), my Windows XP PC tries to open the wrong version of Word.

I get a dialog for "Microsoft Office 2003 Setup" asking for a Product Key. But I don't own Office 2003. The version of office I have installed is Office 97.

In Control Panel - Folder Options - File Types - "Doc" File, the only choice I am offered is "Microsoft Office Word".

How can I fix this? Thanks...

Hi Dale,

You might try re-registering Word to recreate the file associations. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

No, re-registering didn't work. The PC still attempts to open the wrong version of Word.

Do you perhaps have a demo version of Office 2003 installed? Check windows >
control panel > add& remove programs.
