Saving doc increases file size

I have Office 2007 and received a Word doc that was saved in an earlier
version (Word 97-2003 .doc). The doc file size is 57KB.

The header and footer each has a pic for the logo.

If I open it and just save (no changes), the file size increases to 196KB.

Is there any way to make it stay around 57KB? I want to keep it in the Word
97-2003 .doc version.

Ok, I found out when the file gets bloated. It's because I'm saving an
earlier Word version in Word 2007. The several changes required to minimize
the bloating can only be done in the earlier version program.

I went to a computer that had Word 2002 and made those changes and the file
size stayed the same.
