A strange problem but I can't sort it out. All my movie files (.avi .mpeg
etc) have the winamp music icon assigned to them. if i rightclick and select
open with and change it to say Cyberlink powerDVD and select allways use
this programe the icons still show Winamp and the properties say winamp
media. double clicking on the .avi file does open Powerdvd and runs it. I
tried uninstalling Winamp and all the icons changed to windows media player
even though clicking on the same avi file opens power dvd. It's a pain as i
never no what programe is going to open to show / play a paticular file. I
used to do the process above in Win ME to change the icons and programes and
it worked fine. Is there a diffrent way of doing it in Win XP Pro.

Thanks for your help

You can edit those,open control-panel,folder options,file types,scroll to the
icon representing that file type and edit.

just go to display (in control panel) then folder options, then select the
last tab and scroll down to the file types with the wrong items. highlight it
then select advanced. In the advanced select change icon and change the icon
back.

Keith,

Use the Folder Options, File Types dialog to change the default icon.
