Stupid icons

I really, REALLY, hate Quicktime. I've installed it only because it was
necessary. It has changed all my graphics icons and media icons (mp*, avi,
etc.). I cannot change any back to the default program icon (i.e. mp* =
winamp).

When Quicktime was installed it was told (yeah, like it listens!) NOT to
associate ANY media files with it, but it went ahead and changed all the
icons. Some files I've had to change back to the original preferred program.

I've tried opening Explorer/Tools/Folder Options and File Types and change
the icon, but Explorer does not refresh to the changed icon (tried refresh,
close Explorer/reopen, restart computer)... but those stupid icons (thus the
name of the subject) will not change.

Help?

You missed one step by the info you provided in your last paragraph.
Rightclick one of the MP* files and select "Open with", then select
WinAmp, click Apply and OK. Now go to Tools>Folder Options>
and click Apply to All Folders. This action will reset all the MP* files
back to WinAmp. You can also uninstall QuickTime, or just delete the
icon and entry under All Programs to avoid future problems. I do not
like QT either. But, QT will open MP4 and M4A files from your iPod/iTunes
by Apple and WMP will not.

Okay, maybe it was my fault. I didn't say I was able to change my program
back to WinAmp and whatever other media player I used (which was done
already). And maybe it was my mistake for even mentioning Quicktime. My
issue is NOT changing a default program or finding a replacement for
Quicktime. My ISSUE is the friggin' icons. They will NOT change back to the
WinAmp icons. When I go to Tools/Folder Options/File Types, the icon for
MP3s shows the WinAmp icon I want displayed, but in the folders it does not
show what it's SUPPOSED to be, it still displays the stupid Quicktime ICON.

Thank you for your reponse, tho'.
