Wrong characters appear when typing in explorer address bar

Problem: Wrong characters appear when typing in address
bar.??? Had japanese language installed, untinstalled and
tried repair, still no go....characters are fine when
tying in MS word so has to be a browser issue....must be
a setting turned on but cant find it.....has IE6 ,Windows
2000 Pro dell inspirion laptop has all current service
packs and updates from microsoft.....

Hi Paul,

Try this:
Under IE click "View", "encoding" and select Western
European (Windows)
That should clear your problem, you don't have to restart
your browser after this...it's an immediate change.
