When I select photos to write to a cd where can I see a
total number of KB's that I have selected so I know how
much of the CD I will use. when I click on the "files
ready" bottom icon, it tells me the number of files and
details tells me the size of each but I cannot see a grand
total of all selected?

This information is given to you when you open the folder and you select the
files to be copied to a CD.
Open a photo folder, select say, the first 6 files.
Look at the bottom of the folder and you will see 6 objects selected. Look
at the right of this and you will see a number. This will be the total
number of KB or MB for the files selected.

I see that but I select from many different folders and
see nowhere a Grand total of what is about to be burned to
the CD.

Can you tell me how you select many photos, from different folders, and you
send them all at once to be copied on a CD using XP.

A work-around......

When you get all the files selected, right-click and select Properties to see
the total number and size of that group of files.

You will see "size" and "size on disk". Usually fairly close to each other
for graphics files.

I have all my pictures in the "My Pictures" folder and in
that folder, I have several other folders-one for for each
family and even folders inside of folders. I click on
each picture I want to send to the CD and select "write to
CD on the left side of XP window.

OK.
Then there are two ways to get the info. Neither is automatic.
1. You would have to note down the total size of the selected files for each
folder and add them up.
2. After you click on the message "you have files....". a window opens to
show you the files selected and the files already on the CD. Change the View
from Thumbnails to Details. Next to the name of each file, you will see the
size of each file. You can quickly add them up to get an idea of what you
have.

.
thanks for your help..I even have figured out you can ADD
to the CD more pictures (even on a CD-R) and even
overwrite so this indeed solves my desire to fill a CD.
this forum is so much help--really appreciate everyone
help.
