writing to CD RW

E

Evelyn Ballantyne

I use Windows XP to write to CD
I can transfer files to a Write Once only CD but now I
purchased some Re Writable CD's.
I put the new Re Writable CD into the drive and I get the
message that it is a protected disk, what do I do please??
Thank you in anticipation

You will also need "packet writing" software, such as Nero InCD or what was
called Roxio DirectCD if you want to rewrite CDRW disks. Windows XP does
not come with packet software, and so by itself cannot make full use of CDRW
disks.

This isn't entirely correct. Native XP software CAN write to the
CDRW, although I'm not sure about it's ability to erase the data off
of it. I've never used the natvie XP engine, but I do know others who
have written to CDRW using nothing but XP.

There is no need to format the RW for packet writing unless you want
to. The RW will work just fine without UDF formatting.

Using XP's built-in software, erasing a CD/RW must be done in the whole -
erasing the entire disk.

That makes perfect sense, considering the Native support doesn't
include UDF support necessary to "erase" a file from the CDRW!

Thanks though - I wasn't sure if one could erase the CDRW with XP
Native CD writing engine. I don't use it.
