Write Protected CD

I have been writing document files to a CD-R over a
period of time. I have the same computer and same
software and OS for 1 year. The drive details for the CD
say I have 687 MB free space and a total size of 703 MB.
When I try to save a document (Word) file to this disk it
says it is write protected. I have gone under properties
and unchecked read only and applied it. It doesn't
help. I don't understand since I have been putting
document files on this disk for some time now and all of
a sudden I can't. It says the disk is write protected
remove the write protection or use another disk. How do
I remove the write protection?

You cannot save files directly from an application to a CD, the only way XP
will save files to CD is within explorer. Save the file to your my documents
folder or where ever you normally save them & then right click and "Send to"
your cdrom drive.

I assume your using InCD or DirectCD or similar program.
When you save a file to the CD-R which contains a file of
the same name. The file is removed from the directory tree
and the new file and directory tree are written to the CD-R.
The old file is still taking up space. Copy the files from
the CD-R to you hard drive, reformat using InCD or
whatever software your using.
I haven't used XP's built in CD writing so I don't know
if it gives the option to format a CD-R.

CD-R are write once media. You can not re-write to it. Get yourself CD-RW
medias.

oops I should have said format a new CD-R, of course you can't reuse the old
one. Then you can copy your files back to
it. I agree a CD-RW would be better.
