Write Protect

How do I Write Protect a PowerPoint 2007 File. When I try by going to Review,
Protect presentation, I get Trial service sign up for Information Rights
Managment. Doesn't seem like that should be necessary, so I must be in the
wrong area to simply write protect the file.

JMA,
There is the option Mark as final, Office-button - Prepare - Mark as final.
It marks the presentation as final and makes it read only. Easily overcome
though since you can reverse it easily using the same procedure. Not truly
read-only. Apparently you can't set the read-only property using the
properties of the file (Office-button - Prepare - Properties - Properties of
document - advanced properties - General tab). The options are greyed out.
You can still set the file properties in Windows Explorer to read only.
Maybe that will help. Or maybe you can password protect the file, in the
file save as dialog, click the tools listarrow at the bottom (Vista), choose
general options and take it from there.

Thanks all for your help!!

You can apply two kinds of passwords, one to open the file, another to
modify it. If you apply a modify password, people with PPT 2002 or higher
on PC will see a dialog that allows them to enter the modify password or to
just open as read-only.

As John's pointed out, the password isn't exceptionally secure.

What everybody else said. However, the rights management is an option as
well, so you weren't in the wrong place.

Unfortunately, it's not that much more secure than a password is.

I want to warn you also, that if you add a modify password to your PPT 2007
file, when someone opens the file using PPT 2003, it's like there is no
password. It's really really insecure.
