Wrap Text

I just installed the SP2 for Office 2003 and now "wrapped" text does not
appear in my cells. They are not merged cells. Prior to updating, the wrapped
text automatically fit my text. Since updating, even if I manually resize the
row the text does not appear until I double-click the cell. Once I leave the
cell, the text disappears again?

When I turn off "wrap text", the text reappears.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug? Is there a workaround?

I've never noticed a problem with a specific version of excel. But in all
versions, if the text is pretty long (whatever that means), then it seems like
the last few lines can just fade away.

The only workaround I know is to add alt-enters every 80-100 characters. You
may have to resize the rowheight manually, though.

I never heard of double clicking a cell within Excel.

If you go to excel help and enter limits you will see a variety of limits
including how many characters are displayed within a cell. I believe it is
still 1024 characters.

I have seen blank space abovve my text if the last character comes close to
the right edge.

You don't have like white text on white background? I will never forget
that help desk call from retiring Agnes Olson.

That limit of 1024 characters visible in a cell is easily overcome by adding
alt-enters to the value in that cell (every 80-100 characters).

I didn't know about double-click either, but I tried it when trying to figure
out why my text was not showing up.

Pre-SP2: Text with/without ALT+ENTER autogrow my cell. Before installing the
SP, my XLS showed my wrapped text.

Post-SP2: Text shown is single line only (no wrapping). Double-clicking the
cell allows me to see the text in the cell (not just the formular bar). As
soon as I leave the cell, my text disappears.

This behaviour is new since installing SP2.

Double clicking in a cell to edit that cell works nicely if you have:
tools|options|edit tab|edit directly in cell checked.

And if I've ever manually adjusted the rowheight (Not autofit), then my
rowheights will not change. If I autofit that row, then excel will go back to
autofitting that row when the data changes.

But....

If you have lots and lots of text (and have added alt-enters added nicely), then
you may have to resize that row manually. But that's only with lots and lots of
text.

And make sure you have
format|cells|Alignment tab|wrap text
checked.

It sounds like you don't have wraptext turned on.

Yes, I have wrap text turned on. When I turn it off, my text reappears, but
as expected in a single line.
