WOW email not forwarding to wowway.com any more

I use OE 6, XP, IE7, Office 2003
I'm not a technie, so pls bear with me.
For years the email from WOW! portal has be going to my OE. Last week people
starting getting bounce messages saying I was over quota. WOW! Cust Serv told
me to log into my email through the WOW portal and lo and behold there were
950 messages which caused the bounce notice. The tech said I needed to
contact Microsoft. I didn't because it started working again.


Today, the messages are still sitting on the server again and not
transferring to OE.
Cust Serv and I went through the Properties and everything is correct. I
have also checked Tools Accounts Properties- to make sure the box that says
leave messages on server is not checked.

Ideas? Thank you.

The WOW Portal is what the rest of us would call the webmail interface
to an e-mail account. You never mentioned deleting any mails from
various folders in your account (using the webmail interface) to reduce
your disk consumption up on the server. If you are exceeding your disk
quota, and since you chose to leave messages up on the server rather
than deleting them after retrieving them, then you'll have to
periodically use the webmail interface to your account to delete mails
from your mailbox so as not to exceed the disk quota for your account.

If the mails are not "transferring to OE" then there would be an error
message in OE saying why it cannot connect to the mail host or why it
cannot retrieve any mails from your mailbox. You never mentioned an
error message that would prove that OE cannot retrieve your mails from
your mailbox up on the server.

Did you yet try disabling the e-mail scanning feature in your anti-virus
software? It is redundant protection that can interfere with the timing
between client and mail host.

That's just it..there's no error message in OE saying why it cannot connect
to the mail host or why it cannot retrieve the messages.
On a different board when I referrred to webmail they made fun of me for
using that terminology, so I thought I was wrong, that's why I didn' t use
it here.

To my knowledge I have not chosen to leave the messages on the server. It
was working fine for 8 years until last week.

When I try to send a message through OE, the data light on my cable moden
doesn't blink. BUT I can get to IE without any problems.

What is the received date of the oldest message you can see through webmail?
If its after the problem started, you are deleting from the server.

What antivirus product do you use? What firewall?

The oldest message in OE is 11/4...Webmail is 11/5
I wonder if I'm using the wrong terminology. The emails are at Wow webmail.
The same emails have not come through OE since 11/4.

I use Symantec AV and the Windows Firewall.

It's baffling to me how everything worked fine for 8 yrs until last week..

While you note have OE6 and Office 2003 (presumably with Outlook
installed), your later discussion mentions only using OE. This
newsgroup discusses Outlook, not Outlook Express. If this post doesn't
resolve your problem with OE, you should start a new thread over in a
newsgroup that discusses Outlook EXPRESS.
That's just it..there's no error message in OE saying why it cannot
connect to the mail host or why it cannot retrieve the messages.

Enable the troubleshooting logging in Outlook. Then look in the
logfile. The e-mail client will query the mail host as to how many
mail items are in a mailbox. If the mail server says there aren't any
then the client has to assume that is correct. If the e-mail client is
told there are no mail items (LIST command from e-mail client gets a
null response from server), the e-mail client ends the mail session
with no error. Gmail is an example of a mail service that occasionally
goes brain dead where the user can see there are new mails in their
Inbox but the Gmail mail host tells the e-mail client there are no mail
items in the mailbox. One possible trick is to delete or move out all
mail items from the Inbox folder and retest to see if you can then
start receiving new mails. The logfile will show just what is
happening during a mail poll with the server.

Webmail is the term commonly used to refer to using a web browser to
navigate to a web page that permits access to your e-mail account. To
my knowledge, the term webmail has been used ever since Hotmail
introduced that web interface to that service ever since July 1996 when
Hotmail showed up. Webmail is a shortened form of web-based e-mail.

I reviewed your original post which said, "I have also checked Tools

server is not checked." So Outlook is NOT configured to leave messages
on the mail host.
When I try to send a message through OE, the data light on my cable
moden doesn't blink. BUT I can get to IE without any problems.

Did you yet try disabling the e-mail scanning function in your
anti-virus software?

You're using the right terminology, but there was a question about whether
or not you were leaving them on the server - this answers it - no, you
aren't. Not intentionally, not accidently.

It's really odd that there isn't an error in the send/receive properties -
it would be very helpful if there was.

Can you send email through the account?
Did WOW change authentication needed for access?
Disable the firewall for a few min - can you download the mail?
