Would Newly Purchased Copy of XP include Updates, etc.

Is it possible to buy a new copy of XP that would have all the updates and
service packs integrated? Or would one have to go through the painful
process ..... downloading, installing, etc.?

If you purchase a copy of Windows XP it should now come with Service Pack 1.
Add to that download Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP and you will have 90% of
the patchs for Windows XP. Microsoft does sell the disc's completely
updated, but you can make one yourself.
