Would like to reduce size of MAMMOTH presentation

Hi Everyone,

I would like confirmation of my methods, seeing that I am new at
creating presentations using PowerPoint 2000. I am a very
knowledgeable computer user/programmer, but just new to the PPT arena.

I have a PPT that is HUGE, 200 slides (and 427 MB!!!!), almost every
slide has either a scanned or digital image. Some of the digital
images that I am using are 3000 kb in size!

I am going to use my photo-editing software (Kodak EasyShare), save as
25% or 50% of original size, and then re-insert into the presentation.

What I am gathering from reading many posts and advice sites is that if
I insert the .jpg (Insert / Picture / From File) and it JUST FITS into
the slide, then I am using an image that is sized (as in kb size) just
right for the slide.

What I was doing before, when inserting the 3000 kb jpgs, was dragging
on a corner and reducing the viewable image on the slide until it fit
into the slide. I know now that this was only decreasing the size on
the screen, but adding much size to the file.

My PPT will be shown from my desktop computer, through a projector.
I've also read that if the image looks good on my monitor, it will look
good through the projector, no matter how big the projection is on the
wall. CORRECT?

Since you have already built the presentation and the images are already
jpgs --

Step 1 -- Turn off Fast Saves
Click on Tools => Options ...
Select the 'Save' tab
Uncheck the 'Allow Fast Saves' box
Select OK

Step 2 -- Use PowerPoint's native picture optimizer
Select any picture
Click on Format => Picture ...
Select (on the Picture tab) Compress
Select All Pictures, Web/Screen and check the lower two boxes
Click OK.
If prompted, select Apply for picture optimization)
Save the presentation as a new name
Check the file size of this new presentation

Step 3 -- Use my beta add-in
If the presentation is still too big, find out where the size is being
spent
Go to http://billdilworth.mvps.org/SizeMe.htm and download the add-in
Install it and run by selecting 'Display Sizeme tags' from the Tools
menu
Check the Excel report for what slides/objects are using up all your
disk space

I think there are at least four reasons to convert a PowerPoint
Presentation to a Flash file.
1. Reduce Size and Email Ready
The Converter Flash is just 1/10 size of the original presentation,
make it easily to distribute.
2. Greater and Easier Accessibility for Viewers
You can put it on webs or intranets to share with other people.
3. Keep all original effects in PowerPoint presentation
Don't worry about any distortion, some software of this kind even
provides more effects to highlight your presentation.
4. Secure and firewall friendliness

Download the conversion tool from:
