worm question

I was wondering.. if I had a worm that mails itself out to people on my
mailing list... does it use my email (eudora) program to do it.. in a
sense taking it over? Or.. does it use it's own code and my address book?

I use Kaspersky and the free zone alarm but was wondering.. since I have
ZA set to allow my email program to always access the net: if a worm uses
my Eudora then would it bypass my security and mail itself out?
Thanks...

it will generally use it's own code...

perhaps...

however, if the worm is running on your system your system is already
compromized and any preventative or detective controls in place on that
machine are suspect - for example, the worm can (and many now do)
simply kill the zone alarm process and continue to send their emails...

Most recent worms have their own SMTP engine and bypass your email
program.
