worm ?

I have MSN News Alert and I had gone to a website through the News Alert
program when a
message that took up my whole screen said that I had just gotten a worm -
there was a time box that counted down to zero and said if I didn't go to a
particular website and pay $39.99 I would be infected-at first I thought it
was a pop-up ad and didn't pay any attention to the details (such as the
name of the worm!) it then broke my internet connections and disabled Norton
Antivirus-when I click on the NAV icon or go to Programs I get the message
that "Norton Live Update is already running " --even though it is not, there
is no way to launch NAV2003, I even tried uninstalling it but I get the same
"Norton Live Update is already running" message.....I also had my Outlook
Express email program running but did not open any emails or attachments so
I don't know if I got this worm through email or the Web.........would
anyone know what worm I have and is it possible to restore Norton
Anti-virus---I also have Zone Alarm running and I still got the worm-any
recommendations on better software? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in

Zone Alarm is the AOL of firewalls. As for Norton, well...it's just
Norton. if you like bloatware keep it. Otherwise, dump it and get
something better.

Sygate has a free firewall for personal use that works quite well. As
for an AV product, you would be much better off with F-Prot, KAV,
Nod32, or last but not least, McAfee. (at least it uses the Doc Solly
engine)

d/l PRCview and find the worm's running process; kill it and then delete its
reg key using regedit.
