but how do i tell how many bits it has in order to select
the correct download?

Hi,

You have 32-bit. Those with the 64-bit version know what they have. This is
not meant to be a slight.

If you have to ask,it is 32bit.

You would know if you had the 64bit version (which only runs on IA64 ie
Itanium and Itanium II processors) by the light feeling in your wallet.

If you download the wrong version you will get a "not a valid win32
application" message when you try to run the patch.

You have 32bit. Everyone that didn't spend $20,000 on
their system does. Not Itanium processor not 64bit. good
luck.

An Itanium system is certainly within the reach of many home users. A work
station will run you about $3200 USD
http://www.hp.com/workstations/itanium/zx2000/ It wasn't long ago that you'd
expect to pay that much for a Pentium class system and a Mac can still run
you $3000 quite easily.

But you are correct in that the high end servers are very expensive.
