Downloaded Firegraphic, a didital camers assistant. Looks very
nice, but crashed the moment I tried to transfer data from the camera.

Firegraphic 6 isn't freeware, it's shareware.
The install License Agreement states, in part, "You must pay the license fee and register your copy to continue to
use the Software after the thirty (30) day evaluation period."

Entirely different programs.

Dupelocater is much faster and easier to use. Try it and you'll see what I
mean.

DupDetector, though, allows a very configurable latitude in image-
detection. From what I just saw, Dupelocater only finds exact duplicates;
whereas in DD, I can tell it to find the same image at different sizes and
how similar (in percentages) two images have to be to be acknowledged.
Then DD will show you the pictures, filenames, and image sizes.

So for images, DD seems to win hugely.
