Workstation won't join AD domian help please

Hi,

I have posted thiss question earlier but for some reason
my replys to the posting don't take place so I decided to
post the question new.

I have this Windows 2000 workstaion which was part of my
ACtive Directory Network but decomminssioned for some
time. NOw I want to have another user use this machine,
so I tried to rename the machine and re-join it to the AD
Domain, but it says the domain doesn't exist or not
reachable. I have network connectivity as the icon is
active and connected at 100 MB but I cannot ping my
gateway IP address from this workstation.

I installed Windows XP Pro on that Workstation but didn't
resolve my problem. I have network connectivity as the
icon for LAN connection is on and active but I cannot
ping the gateway IP address from that workstation. All
other workstations and servers are fine and can ping
each other by IP address or computer name which tells me
the DNS is working fine.

What keeps this WS from joining the domain has puzzelled
me so far. Can you guys hwlp pleae.

I use 10.10.10.0 network.

two servers with 10.10.10.29 and 10.10.10.50 with .29 is
my primary domain controller and both .29 and .50 are my
DNS server. i can ping any workstation and server by op
address and name from any workstation and server within
my network except this one. Your
help/suggestions/recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mike

Just because you have an icon does not mean the NIC is working, try another
protocol or reinstall the driver or try another NIC. I don't see how this
can be DNS related since you cannot even ping the gateway IP address.

As Kevin said, if you cannot ping the gateway, then it's obviously not a DNS
issue, but a network configuration issue on the NIC or something else is
going on.

If you can post an ipconfig /all from this machine and from one of your
domain controllers, we can take a look at the differences in the config and
makes some suggestions.

If you cannot post this info, then it winds up being completely guess work.
