workstation to domain help

I am moving towards a Domain controlled network in my firehouse. We have 4
workstations that now we want to use a Domain Controller, I have Win2k
Server with AD and DC running.

The workstations have several members logging in at the work station, how do
I keep these members from losing what they have on the workstation when I
switch to the DC login? I see it add's their (DC) name to the Documents and
Settings but they lose access to their previous files. How can I let them
have the same file/program access as when the log into the workstation?

Any help or direction is appreciated.

go into the properties of My computer and find the profile tab. or just go
into docs and settings and move the files...they are still accessible, not
lost.

Is there a way to do this when they login automatically? Such as John Doe
logs in thru the domain controller, using the same name as the workstation,
is there a script or something that can tell the workstation that this is
the same person?

I am VERY new to the server world and I am going very slow in doing this.

Not really, although there are several ways of achieving your original task.

As already stated, you can copy the existing profile using the Profiles GUI
or Explorer. You can also delete the profile with the domain name and
simply change the permissions on original one. You can also use the Files
and Settings Transfer wizard (on the XP CDROM) and/ or the USMT (command
line version) and one or two other free tools from MS that I can't remember
the names of.

First thing to try (it's been an age, so I can't remember if this works) is
to reset the permissions on the existing profile. If that fails, copy the
profile into the other one and change the permissions.

If you have an XP CD floating round, the file and settings migration wizard
is great...

I will check and see if I have the real CD and try that. If not I will just
copy the profile.
