Push DST from a domain controller

Guest

We have a server 2000 domain controller which serves several windows XP and
2KPro stations. If we apply the patch or reg fix to the Windows 2K server
will this automatically update the clients time as they login to the domain?
Or will the reg fix still need to be applied to the Windows 2K workstations
and other servers and the patch applied to the Windows XP workstations we
have here?

Thank you in advance regarding this question.

You have to touch ALL machines, nothing will do it for you.

I have a post on the windows.group_policy newsgroup. I'm thinking of
writing a script to do it and deploy via group policy.

This is a real common question right now, should be able to google for
answers.

Quickly though, all machines operate on UTC which doesn't change. The
DST and TZ settings only affect what is displayed and must be set
locally on each machine.

Here is a way to do it with Group Policy:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914837
http://www.ureader.com/message/313867.aspx

Rather than use the "Hotfix" method (there seems to be a separate patch file
exe for certain, but not all, time zones.)

These do involve (startup) scripting:

CONTROL.EXE TIMEDATE.CPL,,/Z Eastern Standard Time

I don't have the switches fully grokked yet but I can set the timezone and
turn the Automatically Adjust back on without haveing to run a direct
regedit setting -- that timezone can at worst be set by a regini or some
other script method.

RECOMMEND: Set these on a PER SITE basic. It seems the worst
is Indiana where diffrent counties have different settings for both TZ
and (maybe) Daylight Savings. But subnet should (almost?) never cross
county lines.

We implemented this with Desktop Authority (http://
www.scriptlogic.com) We pushed 'patches' and prepared corresponding
changes. Looks like it works. At least for that segment that was
chosen as the first one were decided to update daylight savings. I
guess we will test it a little more and then propagate the changes on
remaining clients.

He wasn't asking how to deploy, there are several ways to deploy that
don't require buying software - especially software from that company.
He was asking what he actually had to patch.

Yeah, I'm guessing he has a connection to the company. I could be wrong
though.

Okay, okay. Just wanted to say, that he could test dst patches and
follow recommendations (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/dst_overview).
Am I breaking the rules and talking offtopic? Please show me my phrase
were I am require someone to buy any software?
