workstation services

I desparately need some assistance!
My server will not allow me to connect to any of the workstations. I get an
error that the "workstation" service is not installed. it will not start
manually either.
when i go to the event viewer, a window opens:
QoS Admission Snapin and says, The expanded action cannot complete. THe
error that occurred was: the workstation driver is not installed.

I am at a loss on how to get this fixed... any one have any ideas for me???

I believe my system has been compromized but i seemed to have cleaned it
out. Also, is there a way to clean out the services list.. there are some
services in there that are definately not supposted to be there ... i
disabled them.

please help.

All those five-letter-random names strongly suggest a virus or spyware
infection. I would suggest using the process at
http://rgharper.mvps.org/cleanit.htm to get things cleaned up.

very helpful richard.. thank you.. i reinstalled the os and am in the process
of doing the cleaning process as described in your cleanup sheet.... we'll
see how it goes... in the mean time, workstation service is now running but i
havent access the internet/network as yet... gonna do the house cleaning.
Question: about a firewall... do i need one on the server? im using an
asus router (for now) its going to be replaced in the next day or so with a
dlink 8 port router.
will zone alarm free version be sufficient for now?

Unless your router has a real firewall (some describe Network Address
Translation or NAT as a firewall, but it is not) you should have a firewall
on your computer. Look for phrases like 'stateful packet inspection' to
indicate the presence of a true firewall.

Antivirus software, frequently updated, is also a must.

I know a lot of folks using the free version of ZA but I don't have any
personal experience with it.
