Workgroups Question - please help

I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question (it probably is)...

I am trying to connect two computers on a home network - and failing. They
are connected via a router - and both access the Internet without difficultry.

My question is this: I have a laptop that I use at work and at home. When
at home, I use it to access a VPN (this works no problem). How do I set up
the workgroups and sharing to acess my desktop PC at home from my laptop when
it is connected to my home network???

I have set up sharing of the desktop PC - have given it a name and accepted
the default workgroup (MSHOME)... I can see this network under Microsoft
Windows Networks on the laptop - but when I try to access it I get: "Mshome
is not accessible..... The network Path was not found"... All the help
files suggest that I need to have the same workgroup on each PC - but if I
change the workgroup on the laptop, that will disable the domain settings for
when it is at work... It appears you cannot be a member of more than one
workgroup... So - I seem to be stuck.

Is it really true that you cannot take a laptop and connect it to two
different networks depending on where you are? I am surprised.

What bothers me is that, before today I had an access point on the home PC,
and connected the laptop through this using ICS. I was also able to access
the home PC folders. SO - I know it is possible!

Please could someone enlighten me? Your help will be much appreciated!

In case it helps - my config is:

Laptop PC - Windows XP professional SP2
Home PC: Windows XP Home Edition
Router: Linksys WRT54GS

Happy New Year!

Have just figured out my own stupidity - my software firewall (Zone Alarm
Pro) is blocking the network traffic.. Duh!

Thanks for calling it off! Sometimes firewalls create more
problems than they solve. :)-)
