Workgroup security drawback

Hi

I have created a database using a Workgroup Information File to
provide security, but I have discovered to my amazement that it can be
opened without usernames and passwords by simply opening MS ACCESS,
then opening the .mdb file using the File, Open menu.

Is there a way of preventing this?

Sounds as though you didn't secure it properly.

A common mistake is forgetting to remove the Admin ID from the Admins group.
If you do that, then since the default ID is Admin, anyone will be able to
use your application with any MDW file.

No - the User Admin only belongs to group "users".

Forget that - it now won't let me in that way. What happened there?

Hopefully you had the foresight to work on a copy of your database, so that
you can fall back to it.

Make sure you read the Security FAQhttp://support.microsoft.com/support/access/content/secfaq.asp extremely
carefully several times before starting. Make sure you don't skip any steps.

I don't think it was an error. I think this is what happened. I had
already logged on to the database using a username and password. Then
I closed the database, leaving Access still open, and re-opened it. I
guess it already had me logged on as a valid user. If I close the
whole thing, then just open Access, then try and open the database, it
tells me I don't have the required permissions.
