Workgroup problems - one minute it's there, next it's gone

Hi,

I have 3 PCs connected via a Linksys router (also connected to a cable modem
but I don't think this is relevant) and I'm having problems with connecting
to the other two PCs in my workgroup. It's an erratic problem i.e. some days
it just works others it doesn't. When I take the "View workgroup computers"
option in "My Network Places" If it's decided today's the day it's not going
to work I get a message:

"XXXX[workgroup name] is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find
out if you have access permissions.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"

Funny thing is, I can immediately map a network drive to one of the other
machines without problem.

My PC is running XP pro and I'm logged in as administrator, the other two
PCs on the network are running Win2K and 98SE.

Not a massive problem but it's beginning to bug me.

Sorry I can't be of any help, but I have a very similar intermittent situation
that recently started occuring.

I also have 3 PCs connected via a Linksys router, connected to a cable modem. I
don't think this is relevant either.

My LAN had been running fine before I added the XP Pro laptop. And it continued
to run fine for several months after. It was set up (without even trying) so
that the other two machines could not access the laptop, but they could access
and share between them and the XP could access and share on the other two.

Suddenly, and intermittently, if the XP machine is turned on, it shows the
network and the Network Places, but it cannot access anything. The other two
machines don't show any network and cannot communicate.

When I attempt to access from the XP, I sometimes am able to, If I can't, I get
a similar message as you do, "XXXX[workgroup name] is not accessible. You might
not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of
this server to find out if you have access permissions."

However, I don't remember it saying, "The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently available"

If the XP machine is off, the network shows on the other two and they are able
to communicate.

When the XP machine is running, it completely destroys the entire network.

I am logged on the XP as administrator.

Any ideas?

TIA
