Workgroup is not accessible

I have the same problem. I have a net of win95 and ME all
using workgoup, and working fine. trying to install 2 new
XPs. checked workgoup names and they all match, but when
I click "View workgroup computers" I get that same error.
There is an artical in the Knowledge base (318030)that
describes the problem but the fix does not work. What do
you mean "you have to grant it permissions on
the win2k machine"? Workgroups don't use servers do they?

These tips should help get everything working:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/ic_firewall.htm

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/netbt.htm

In a workgroup, Win2k only allows networked access by users who have a
local user account on the Win2k computer. So, for example, to access
Win2k from a Win95 computer, there must be a user account on Win2k
with the same user name and password that are logged in on Win95.

So, for example, to access Win2k from a Win95 computer,
there must be a user account on Win2k with the same user
name and password that are logged in on Win95.

You could enable the Guest account on the Win2k machine.
However, I've tried creating a user account on XP Pro and
cannot get this to work. If I enable the Guest, then
everything works. I haven't assign any password either to
it, but with the Guest account disabled, I get a password
prompt. Can anybody give me steps on how to accomplish
this?
