workbook names followed by a colon then a number

J

Jazz

version: XP
problem: once opening a workbook, the title bar lists the
workbook name followed by a colon, then a number.
Example "workbook.xls:2"

I have not been able to duplicate on my own machine. How
does it get there? I presume it is a version, but how is
it created? How is it deleted?

Using Excel 2002.

You have 2 windows of the same file opened and if you save while they are
open
they will be stay that way, press Ctrl + F6 to close one window and save the
workbook

That isn't it. I cannot duplicate that nomenclature. I
work on a help desk, and this is for a client of mine.
Tell me hoe to create it.. I cannot get my 2002 client to
create that name...

I'm hesitant to cross Peo--he's a very big Swede and you don't want him mad!

But I bet he meant ctrl-F4 to close the window you don't want open.
(ctrl-f6 toggled between open windows)

And you can create these windows by: Window|New window

(For that tough talking Swede <vbg>: Ctrl-W also closes the active window.
(and it's easier to remember!))

If I seemed rude somehow, wasn't meant to..
Just that I could not duplicate the :# at the end of the
spreadsheet name...
