work offline???

about 5 minutes after i boot my pc i get a small pop up
window that say an internet connectin could not be found.
then two options to click. try again or work offline.
this has happened before but it eventually went away. is
IE or some other program trying to connect on its own? is
this a virus? my scans have turned up nothing. thanks

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
