Thanks again. Seems a bit technical. Will try with a friend. Let you
know the outcome in due course.

What Is the /a Switch?
[[The /a switch is a troubleshooting tool that you can use to determine
where a problem may exist when you are working with Microsoft Word.
When you use the /a switch to start Word, the switch prevents add-ins
and global templates from being loaded automatically. The /a switch
also locks the setting files; that is, the setting files cannot be
read or modified when you use this switch.
NOTE: Microsoft does not recommend that you use the /a switch as a
typical operating startup switch. This switch prevents your preferred
settings in Word from being retained. Use the /a switch only when a
Microsoft Support Professional requests that you do so, or when you
must troubleshoot Word to determine where a problem may exist. ]]

Thanks Wesley for the response. This is my second reply to yours.
The first one does not seem to have gone out. Perhaps my internet is
a bit slow.
As for your first suggestion of using the Toolbars, there is no
toolbar at all on my Word window screen. All I have is a line of
small squares at the left lower corner showing buttons for normal
view, web layout view, print layout view and outline view. Beneath
that is a space showing "Page1 Sec1 1/1" etc and "English (U.S.)".
So I can't get to "Customize".
Regarding the suggestion of using Help, there is no response to my
clicking Alt+H. I have tried also Ctrl+H but only the screen for
"Find and Replace" appears. I have also tried to right click on this
screen but there is no response.
Basically my problem is the missing of the Top Menu Bar that is
usually found with all Word pages. Incidentally this Top Menu Bar
appears in all the other Office programs such as Excel and Outlook
Express.
This community is great. It makes one feel that you are not all alone
in this crazy of computers.

:
Try this.
Open Word | Right click any Toolbar that you can see |
Click Customize down at the bottom of the menu that pops up |
On the Toolbar tab, under Toolbars: |
Place a Check Mark in Menu Bar
Toolbars:
Lists the available toolbars. To display a toolbar, select the check
box next to the name. To hide a toolbar, clear the check box.
Or you can click the Reset button.
Reset button
Removes any changes you made to the selected toolbar and restores the
original settings.
If none of the above works, try Detect and Repair from Help.
I just realized that Help is on the Menu Bar.
Use Alt + H to open the Help menu.

I don't know what I have done with my mouse but the Menu Bar which
shows "File Edit View Insert Format Tools Tables Window Help" has
disappeared form my window for the Word page.
I still can use the keyboard to print but the functions availabe are
extremely limited. I cannot find the place to open up an old file
for instance.
I might have turn the "Look" or "View" of the page to some form of
format. But I just don't know how to get back to the normal Look or
View.
Grateful if someone could help me.
