I would check the Windows XP installation CD. Look for wordpad.*.

It's not in start---all programs---accessories????

Have a look on your machine. The executable is in the Accessories
folder but the .chm file is usually where the OP expects it to be.

Ooops! .chm went right over my head.

Just to clarify: wordpad.chm should be in c:\windows\help with all the other
help files, but isn't there or anywhere else on the computer. Maybe someone
could send me a copy of it or tell where I could download it

Thank you

Did you look on your WinXP CD, as I suggested?

Didn't work, I just need a copy of the file :-(

What do you mean with "did not work"? Here is an extract from my
WinXP CD:
F:\>dir /s wordpad.*
Volume in drive F is XRMPFPP_EN
Volume Serial Number is CA65-734F

Directory of F:\I386

Thu 29/08/2002 14:00 25,620 WORDPAD.CH_
Thu 29/08/2002 14:00 74,426 WORDPAD.EX_
Thu 29/08/2002 14:00 4,500 WORDPAD.HL_
Thu 29/08/2002 14:00 2,134 WORDPAD.IN_
4 File(s) 106,680 bytes

Wordpad.ch_ is clearly visible. You simply need to expand it.

ok I expanded wordpad.ch_ to windows\help, so how do I get wordpad.chm from
wordpad.ch_ :-(

Al

Reset to zero. What is your problem? Wordpad is an optional program with XP.
Is it installed on your system?
If you do a search does if find a shortcut you can click on?

Very simple:

expand.exe e:\i386\wordpad.ch_ c:\windows\help\wordpad.chm

To get help on commands such as expand.exe, type this at the
Command Prompt:
expand /?
