On the application WordPad which comes with Windows 2000, I open edit and
save text files all the time. Every time I save one of these basic text
files, I get a message "You are about to save the document in a Text-Only
format, which will remove all formatting. Are you sure you want to do
this?". I have not added any special formatting, don't want any special
formatting. I just want to use WordPad as a basic text editor because most
times I want the features it has that NotePad does not. How can I make it
stop asking this question every time and just save it?! Yes, I know I'm
about to save in Text-Only format. That's what I want. That's what I
always want. Quit Asking! Please advise. Can I kill this or do I have to
start using a different editor?

What features do you want in text only mode that Notepad does not have?

I would simply use notepad for that file type presonally

Which features are irrelevant, as I simply want to know if I can turn off
that annoying message, but here's a few.
WordPad has some space around the text while NotePad crams everything to the
edges.
WordPad has a toolbar to save, print, find, etc.
WordPad has recent files to select from under the File menu.
WordPad has a Print Preview option.

The "space around the text " is the margin which requires RTF which is
why WordPad is prompting you when you save as txt cos it would have to
strip away the margins information.

It's not a Rich Text file. It's just a plain text file. WordPad even
recognizes this. On the menu, I select View - Options. Under Rish Text,
there's an option checked for a format bar. Under Text, it's unchecked.
The format bar is not showing for this file, so it's not trying to say it's
in Rich Text format. It should be plain text format. If there are
"margins" assigned to formatting as you say, I can't see where. The only
"margins" I can see are under Page Setup. NotePad has these too. I don't
see how margins could count as formatting or how I could turn them off. If
I select Save As, it defaults to Text. It seems to recognize my files as
plain text, not Rich Text (RTF). Even after I save, it prompts for "Do I
really want plain text to strip all formatting?", I say Yes, then I close
and reopen the file, I get the prompt again!

That the way it is ... Wordpad is ALWAYS gonna ask you that. Either live
with it or use another text editor. There are plenty of 'em available for
free. Google is your friend.
